Saturday May 5th Miguel Angel Cotto and Floyd "Money"
Mayweather will meet in Las Vegas.
The Undefeated Mayweather will add another name to his notch, and he
will try to do it as quickly as possible.
Cotto is not the same fighter he used to be since he was demolished by Antonio Margarito in 2008.
He got his revenge when he fought Margarito in November of 2010.
Fighting a one eyed fighter Cotto never went for the kill he jabbed and ran
away from the fight until the doctor stopped the fight because Margarito’s
previously injured eye was swollen. He finally avenged his defeat and
is now back to normal. He no longer sees Margarito's fist destroy his
face for three non-stop rounds and he has forgotten that he had to take a knee
in order to make them stop.
The only pressure Mayweather will have fight night will be to defeat
Cotto in better fashion than Pacquiao did in 2009.
Floyd never usually predicts knockouts but today he told the Las Vegas
Sun "This
fight won't go the distance. He's coming in for the kill and I'm going in there
for the kill. This is boxing, this is the hurt business, it's about excitement
and that's what I'm here to do."
This fight it is a brilliant strategic move for Mayweather because Cotto
is probably the only fighter, thanks to his loyal following in Puerto Rico, that can get Mayweather the two million pay per
view buys he has been striving to get since he fought Oscar De La Hoya. The two
million buys this will give him leverage to ask for more than 50-50 or 60-40 he
has rejected to split with Pacquiao.
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaffer thinks the 2 million mark is possible he
told Boxingscene.com
"I'm basing that on early results from closed circuit. I'm basing that
on sponsors' feedback. I'm comparing the [statistics from the] movie theaters.
There you can track it very nicely. You can look two weeks before, for the
[Victor] Ortiz fight or the [Juan Manuel] Marquez fight or the [Shane] Mosley
fight ... How many tickets did you sell? And we can compare it to [our
figures] now and we've been getting those numbers updated. I don't even
want to say how much more [we've done than in previous fights], but if these
numbers are going to translate to [pay-per-view buys], and the early
indications are that they will because of the kind of feedback that we're
getting. If those numbers in fact are true, I think we might break the
record. Based on those early indications, it's unreal."
Floyd has no respect for Cotto and it is blatant in HBO's "Max
Kellerman's Face Off" where he keeps inturrupting Cotto with talks of his
on-going bets and messing with his tablet during the interview.
Floyd saying the right things to hype up the fight without disrespecting Cotto.
For example he told ESPN.com "The fans should watch this [fight] because,
in my eyes, Miguel Cotto is an undefeated fighter," Mayweather said, even
though Cotto has two official losses. "He fought one guy at a catchweight
and another guy who got in trouble for cheating. He's a strong knockout puncher
and he always comes out and fights in a pleasing way."
I think Floyd will knock out Cotto in the 7th round. Cotto will
get a couple of good body shots but once Floyd has him timing down he will dance to
the right and smash Cotto with the over hand right. Cotto will tire of
getting bullied and abandon his footwork. Floyd will exploit his
recklessness and either start working the body in order to put him out or batter
his face for 3 rounds before the towel is thrown in.
