A Tough Road Block

Remember when champions used to fight the best?
Saturday July 26, 2013 on Showtime Middleweight Champion Peter Quillin is fighting Gabriel Rosado.  It's going to be an exciting fight between two hungry ass middleweights. Peter Quillin has been claiming to be the best Middleweight in the world, and most believe Quillin is barking and snarling really loud because the chain link fence of the HBO/SHOWTIME/Golden Boy Feud is keeping him safe from the bite of the vicious Golovkin.  But who knows he might be the bestmiddleweight and thanks to that petty feud we wont see that fight anytime soon.

Rosado is that guy written from hollywood scripts.  A Philly thug who got here by getting beat up by tough dudes and fucking up tougher dudes. His ticket to this spot was his heart and fists.  Shiet, one of his unique carreer accomplishments is standing toe to toe with Golovkin, and being the only man in recent memory to not get knocked the fuck out by the Great puncher. The fight ending by a white towel from Gabe's corner as  Rosado stood bloody on his feet willing to fight some more.
Meanwhile, Quillin has had a safer road here.  He has earned his title taking a carefully paved road that stiffened with every fight.  This Rosado  fight is the perfect road block for the champ to test his spot among the top Middleweights.
The bookies have Quillin as a 6 to 1 favorite over Rosado.  In my opinion they are generous odds.  My money is on Gabe.

Steel Balls and Fist of Stones

My post last week didnt go through if you read it ignore the post date. Those thoughts were of last week.
But what a fight!  Both Alvarado and Russlan fought their heart out.
Russlan is the real deal.  He hit and got hit, and his hits look like they hurt.  Pessimist will say he will be out boxed.   To them  I say "fuck you and go watch a Rigo fight".
Only Warriors with balls of steel fight like that. Fighters like Pacman, Matthysse, Flash, Rios, Gatti, Ward and more.
It's an attitude, "No one could fuck me up  I'm going to knock this mother fucker out",  that makes these fighters memorable and a privilege to watch.
Some fighters bring doubt to a fight or the dreaded pillow fist.  I do Admire their skill, but I pay to watch those no fear stoned fisted motherfuckas.

This Saturday Mike Alvarado is going to fight Provodnovik on HBO.
Cue the putasos.
That's it, if you miss this you're fucking up in life.

THE FINAL FOUR

It's late March, and sports highlights are filled with  the NCAA's basket ball tournament.  I'm not a big on college basket ball, so I really could care less about the tournament especially since UCLA was eliminated in the first round.
I am writing on Golden Boy's version of the Final Four. Last week Richard Schaffer announced a junior welterweight tournament in the crowded field.
The participants are Lucas Matthysse, Lamont Peterson, Danny Garcia, and Zab Judah.
If you have read my previous blog entries you know that I've been asking for a 140 lbs tournament since I think junior welterweight is the best division in boxing.  I even made a video for it.
Although, these are not all my ideal participants I am excited about the tournament.  At least this allows for a  road to Lucas Matthysse to fight Danny Garcia.
In this version of the tournament Danny Garcia will fight Zab Judah for his WBC Jr. Welterweight title on April 27 while Matthysse fights Lamont Peterson on May 18.  The winner of both fights will face each other in the fall, and the winner of that fight gets a ton of money and a shit load of exposure by beating up Amir Khan, yes the Amir Khan that got fucked up by Peterson and Garcia gets to fight the winner of the tournament.  It seems unfair but Khan is the cash cow, and besides it should be an easy fight for the winner of the tournament.

GARCIA (Louisville) - Garcia  is ranked number one he has stolen the spotlight and cemented himself as the top junior welterweight.  He robbed all of Khan's title with a barrage of vicious left hooks that the soft chinned champ could not handle.
After that he destroyed an over the hill Erik Morales in December, and now is lined up to destroy Zab Judah.  How confident am I that Judah will get smashed? Very and I use  simple logic.
Zab Judah made Amir Khan look like the second coming of Sugar Ray Robinson in their fight.  He was too slow and got fucked up to the point where he quit because of a phantom low blow.  Garcia took all Khan took Khan's best punches and then knocked him out.

Zab Judah(Wichita)-  Judah is Wichita lucky to be here but has no chance in winning . Judah  has chewed more than he could chew and has gotten the spot based solely on his name. That being said I believe Wichita has a better chance against Louisville than Zab winning a round against Garcia.

MATTHYSSE(Michigan)- He is Michigan the hands down favorite to win the tournament. He has taken the toughest road in order to be a part of the final four.  This guy is a myth with his own hashtag and hype that was created by his utter destruction of dangerous foes. When I see him I feel he should have a song like Paul Bunyan but he does have this sick video courtesy of Gorilla Productions

Peterson(Syrcacuse)- He has defeated Amir Khan, and recently defeated Kendall Holt.  But after his win versus Khan it was proved that he was on Performance enhancement drugs, and his rematch with Khan was cancelled.  Instead he has been under the radar for the last year fighting only once in February. The thing about Peterson is that his victories are all at home, in D.C. and his match against Matthysse will be in NJ.  The allegations of cheating will be a distraction.  This will be a hard fight but Michigan should come out on top.

So there you have it guys I have safely predicted that Michigan will win the NCAA Tournament and Lucas Matthysse will win the Golden Boy Final Four Tournament. More than likely I'm wrong about college basket ball but I am sure Matthysse will win.

Either way no matter who wins the tournament I fear for Khan.

Robert Guerrero

An image I made of Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero using photoshop.  It is a mixture of Spartacus from the show on Starz and a modern day Gladiator.

Saturday Night Wars

Today is a very important day in the Boxing world.
The Cold War that was brewing between Golden Boy and Top Rank has officially begun.
Sadly, the first shot was shot by HBO sports president Ken Hershman when he announced this morning that HBO will no longer showcase any Golden Boy fighters.
"In order to achieve our goal of the best fighters in the most compelling match-ups, we've decided to focus our efforts and resources on those strategic relationships where we better share common goals and business philosophies," Hershman said in a statement.

The announcement is a middle finger to all boxing fans the and it should of read like this :
"Boxing fans you can now shut up about  fights  like Brandon Rios vs Lucas Matthysse, Canelo vs Chavez jr or Sergio Martinez, Mares vs Donaire. Instead we have decided that we are bigger than the sport of boxing, mand we know you will watch whatever we want to show you so Fuck Golden Boy and GO FUCK YOURSELF!"

This first shot  was similar to Franz Ferdinand being shot, okay I may be exaggerating but it is pretty big deal for boxing heads.
Fighters such as Canelo Alvarez, Abner Mares, Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse, and more will no longer showcase their talents on HBO.
Instead HBO will mainly focus on Top Rank fighters such as Julio Cesar Chavez jr, Brandon Rios, Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire, and other warriors  like Juan Manuel Marquez and Sergio Martinez.

As @BoxingGeek pointed out earlier boxing will now be like the old WWF/WCW  Monday night wars back in the 90's and early 2000's.
WCW had their shitty show Monday Night Nitro  on TNT and WWF had RAW on USA. Their war robbed fans from such great fights such as Sting vs The Rock or Goldberg vs Stone Cold.
Luckily, Eric Bischoff was stupid enough to allow young fighters like Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, and  the Big Show to leave in favor of keeping old fighters like Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash in the main event.
His error allowed dream fights like Jericho vs The Rock, Eddie vs The Rock, The Big Show vs The Rock, and all young WCW talented wrestlers  vs The Rock.
Okay, HHH had some sick fights with Eddie and Benoit, so did numerous more WWF superstars.
A classic Eddie Guerrero vs The Rock on Rock
Eventually  Bischoff's lack of vision caused  WCW to fold because it never developed young fighters besides Goldberg.  The rest of the WCW fighters that were being held back, ahem Booker T, were brought over to WWF after the war ended.
The problem here is that Bob Arum is not stupid like Bischoff, and he will not make the error of allowing any of his fighters move to Golden Boy.
Boxing fans will be forced to choose between watching a fight on Showtime or HBO, kinda like we had to last September when Canelo fought Lopez on Showtime and Chavez jr fought Martinez on HBO.
The Golden Boy himself has a strategy in this fight,he's going to ride this out. His plan is to sink HBO boxing altogether.
I really don't care who wins the war as long as the casualties of lost fights end soonn, but it is sad that it has to gotten to the point where we must wait for a man to die in order  for this war to end.  But, death is a part  of war.
This a result of powerful people allowing their emotions and ego to control them.  In this case, they consider themselves bigger than the sport of Boxing.

Timothy Bradley

Holy Shit! Holy Shit!!
Last night Timothy Bradley was a man on a mission
For 12 rounds he stood toe to toe with the Russian contender Ruslan Provodnikov.  He took the Russians best shots and was awarded the decision
It is nothing against Bradley, but I have not enjoyed his recent fights. I watch boxing to see two guys drop their balls and squab.  He did what seemed impossible and made his fight against Pacquiao boring to watch.

My brain is ruined by fights I used to watch as a kid. I guess most of the fights stem from Rocky movies, all offense and no defense.  Strategy is thrown out the window and, the guys would take turns punch each other in the face till one of them would drop.
You know, something similar to human Rock em Sock em with brains.  It sounds barabaric, but fuck it Chavez Sr, Rios, Matthysse, Pacquiao, Marquez do it.

Fighters like Bradley know how to win, but they dont win  in an entertaining way. It's all head butts and running with him.
Personally I didn't want to see the  Bradley fight.  I was looking forward in seeing Nick Diaz fight George St. Pierre.  GSP promised us that unlike his last 10 fights he would knock out the challenger out because he really really hates Nick Diaz.  Meanwhile, Diaz was cussing up a storm and mean mugging his way into my hear.  I truly believed the two would beat the shit out of each other.
But, that asshole Juan wanted to see the boxing fight, and thank goodness his stubborn ass made us watch the fight.  We somehow managed to watch both fights.
Fight Night at the House UFC and Boxing Co-existing
There is no doubt in my mind that Timothy could of cruised to an easy title defense, but he heard all the criticism thrown at him after the Pacquiao and it seemed he had something to prove.  He knew that if he was to fight Juan Manuel Marquez or Brandon Rios for the big bucks he would have to put on a show and that meant he had put himself in the line of danger.
Bradley put on a show for the few thousand people at the Home Depot Center in Carson that night.  He fought toe to toe with the dangerous Russian for 12 rounds taking  punishment and even getting knocked down twice, although the ref mistakenly called the first one a slip.  He took the challengers over hand right over and over ,and  it seemed that he was out in his feet more than once.  But, Bradley fought back bravely and masterfully using his speed, combinations and body work to keep the Russian in control.
He fought dangerously prompting his trainer Joel Diaz to threaten to stop the fight if Bradley would not listen to his strategy. Bradley knew that Diaz wouldn't stop  the fight, so he continued to fight the way he wanted.  He knew he was a better boxer than the Russian, and if the Russian hadn't knocked him out in the first two rounds he had survived the worst of the onslaught.
The Russian by his part showed tremendous heart.  He carried a vicious cut above his left eye and was visibly winded.  He was reminiscent of those meaty 1930's prize fighters. Relentless in his attack no matter how bad he was getting tagged by the obviously better fighter.
Bradley won the fight by decision, but he also won himself new fans.  Now boxing heads are salivating on the thought last night's Timothy Bradley fighting Juan Manuel Marquez or Brandon Rios.

For his beautiful fight last night Timothy Bradley receives the Russell Crowe "Are you Not Entertained" award of the night

Meanwhile in the UFC Championship fight between  the two hated rivals GSP and Nick Diaz  it was pretty much this for 20 Minutes, what a waste of money and time.

MARK HUNT VS ROY NELSON

I have dream fights in my head all the time seriously it's probably the only thing that I fantasize besides maybe one day meeting Mario Lopez and becoming best friends.
There's been a fight that has tickled my fancy for the last few years has been a match up between Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt.
These two are modern day gladiators blessed from the heavens with the heart and skills to battle to the very death if it was allowed, thank goodness it isn't.  Everytime they set foot in the octagon it is if they made a pact with their opponent "One of us is going to get fucked up tonight".

It feels as if Maximus himself posses their bodies and screams out to the crowd "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?!" and the blood thirsty crowd always roars back with an emphatic "FUCK YES WE ARE"

These two have no idea how to step backwards, they carry chins forged of granite and their punches have the impact of a sledge hammer.

These are Nelson's last fights
Mitrione- TKO
Pee Wee Herman- 1st round KO
Fabricio Werdum- Lost by decision
Mirco Flipvic- TKO
Frank Mir-Loss by decision
Junior Dos Santos- Loss by decision
Stevan Struve- TKO
Brandon Schaub- TKO

Ironically the fights that stand out  most are his loses  because he has never been KO'd.  The guy went the distance with Junior Dos Santos that alone merits a badge of honor.  He took his biggest punches and stood the 3 rounda.  The guys he has knocked out are no joke either. Fighters like Mirco, Struve, Schaub, and Mitrione are very dangerous fighters. Fighters with more athletic pedigree but not blessed with the will and power of Nelson

Lets look at Mark Hunt's last fights

Struve- TKO
Cheik Congo- TKO
Ben Rothwell- Win by decision
Chris Tuchscherer- KO

If you are reading this I hope that you watched the Struve fight last weekend because it probably was one of the best fights in a long time.  His destruction of Congo was something many people did not predict and Rothwell is a dangerous opponent.

It's simple these two guys are entertaining.  They are tough as nails and probably carry the heaviest pair of balls in the UFC.  It will be a crime if the world was denied the opportunity to see these two go at it.
After Nelson smashes Congo this fight must happen!

Please DANA WHITE Make it happen #HuntNelson
